Enough Rope

A report on LA Indymedia notes that an effigy of Osama Bin Laden was hanged. The headline:
Racists Hang Effigy of Bin Laden Near Mosque
An older story on LA Indymedia reports of a rally where:
Effigies of George Bush and Ariel Sharon were burnt
Hang effigies of the guy responsible for 9/11? You're a racist!

But not if you hang (and burn) effigies of the elected American President or the elected Israeli Prime Minster. I guess that makes you an 'activist'.

I hope that' s clear now.

Comments:
On Indymedia UK it's OK to be critical of the very few homophobic attacks in the US but the daily attacks on Gay and Lesbien people in Palestine and Iran are not deemed acceptable for reporting so are hidden !!!

The whole burning of an effigy, regardless of who it is, always seemed creepy to me. Are folks who do it arguing that they would lynch an individual and burn them at the steak if they were given the opportunity?

Reminds me of a comment by a friend of mine when we were watching the news. A group in Iran were (once agsin ) burning US flags in the streets before the usual excitible mob.
"You know what I can never work out why are so many US flags always available in Iran ?"

We wondered if an enterprising individual was importing them and then selling them to the rent a mob crowd before the event. I can here them now,
"Hey Abdul, US flags here, only $10 show the infidels what you think of them"

I seem to rember reading somewhere about an Israeli flag seller who was making a lot of money selling flags to Palestinians, but that might be one of those stories that are too funny to be true.

'Anonymous' is quite right about Indymedia UK. Although it has not yet descended to the depths of naked left-right conspiracy nuttiness of some other IMC's, it is overrun by homophobic (and anti-semitic) people posing as leftists. Or maybe it's just full of nasty people regardless of ideology.

Yes it was true, but they were Palestinian flags made in Israel. When Arafat came to Gaza for the first time he was received with thousands of Palestinian flags... made in Israel. :)

Almost as good as the "Burt is Evil" story which turned out to be true !
